The rapid water quality assessment during the year 2018 for selected sampling points was as follows:- Kaleya River at Water valley had pH values above the ZABS upper limit (8.0) for December 2017 and February 2018 sampling campaigns of 8.06 and 8.31 respectively. Kaleya at Flat bridge also had a pH value above the ZABS upper limit (8) for the December sampling campaign of 8.13. While Kaleya at GNRB had a pH value of 8.24 above the ZABS upper limit (8) for March sampling campaign. In March, Kaleya River at the source had a value of 6.34 which was below the allowable limit of 6.5 by ZABS. The rest of the pH values fell within the permissible limits. The Kaleya Sub-Catchment comprises of Upper and Lower. The Upper Kaleya has been further sub delineated into five (5) sub-basins based on the prominent hydrometric stations; thus, Kaleya @ Damsite, Kaleya @ Water Valley Road Bridge, Kaleya @ Avillion Weir, Kaleya @ Avillion Road Bridge and Kaleya @ Great North Road Bridge. The approximate Catchment Area for Kaleya Headwaters Catchment measured at Damsite is 46.746 Sq. Kilometers. Water Valley sub-basin drains an approximate area of 29.368 Sq. Kilometers. The water usage in the Kaleya Sub-Catchment is mainly used for Irrigation and Livestock. The overall cumulative water usage from the year 2011 to 2018 amounts to 29,044,895.60 cubic Meters. The cumulative volumes for the specific seven (7) year period are such that; the Volume used during the 2011/ 2012 Farming Season amounted to 3,187,936.00 cubic meters, the season 2012/2013 Volume amounts 2,660,304.00 cubic meters, the season 2013/2014 Volume amounts 4,923,925.60 cubic meters, the season 2014/2015 Volume amounts 2,285,848.00 cubic meters, the season 2015/2016 Volume amounts 5,032,400.00 cubic meters, the season 2016/2017 Volume amounts 5,779,785.00 cubic meters and the farming season ...
